What is aspartame?
Aspartame is a sweetener which was discovered some 25 years ago. It is approximately 200 x sweeter than sugar. The heat resistance of this product is relatively weak: therefore it is less suitable for cooking and baking.

What is saccharin?
Saccharin is one of the eldest known sweeteners and has been used successfully over more than 100 years. It is approximately 400 x sweeter than sugar.
Saccharin has a slightly bitter aftertaste, which is hardly noticeable when used in combination with other sweeteners.

What is cyclamate?
Cyclamate is a sweetener which was discovered 60 years ago. Since then it has been used mostly in combination with other sweeteners. Cyclamate is approximately 35 x sweeter than sugar.

What is acesulfame-k?
Acesulfame-k is a sweetener which was discovered in the eighties. It is approximately 200 x sweeter than sugar and is often used in combination with other sweeteners.

What is neohesperidine?
Neohesperidine is a sweetener and is produced from an extract of citrus products. It is 2000 x sweeter than sugar and is usually mixed with other sweeteners. This product is an approved sweetener for usage throughout the EEC since 1997. What is thaumatin?
Thaumatin is a sweetener which is extracted from an exotic fruit. It is 2000 x sweeter than sugar. This product is an approved sweetener for usage throughout the EEC since 1997.

Are the Natreen products 100% safe to use?
The Natreen products are made from very fine ingredients, which have been tested extensively for their purity. All used sweeteners comply with the existing local and European legislation and quality standards. From the extensive scientific tests done with sweetener, it is save to conclude that under normal daily usage Natreen's ingredients do not pose any risk for public health.

Can one use Natreen during pregnancy or breast feeding?
There are no exceptions for the use of Natreen during pregnancy or breast feeding; it can be used normally during these periods.

Does the use of Natreen damage your teeth?
None of the Natreen products are damaging your teeth except those Natreen products where sugar has been added. In these products usage of sugar is clearly indicated on the label.

Can one be allergic to Natreen?
An allergy for additives is rare. Fortunately - to our knowledge - it has never happened that someone reacted allergically to one of the ingredients of Natreen.

Why does some of Natreen's packaging carries the claim: "Contains a source of phenylalanine"?
This claim on the label of some of the Natreen products is related to the presence of aspartame, which is a source of phenylalanine. A very low percentage of the population (0.1%) cannot consume this substance, which comes naturally in other food products such as milk and eggs.
